Bentley have used the visit of George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, to reveal a £40 million investment which it hopes will create over 300 jobs.

The new announcement represents the latest phase in Bentley’s largest-ever site expansion program, and will see a new research and development centre measuring over 45,000 sq/m constructed at its Crewe headquarters.  Commencing early next year, the development will feature a dedicated styling studio, offices, and technical workshop, and will be home to over 1,300 Bentley engineers working towards realising the company’s ambitions of releasing the world’s first ultra-luxury SUV in 2016.  A further 300 roles have been created as a result of the scheme, working within engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales and marketing and project management.
The new announcement comes at the end of an 18 month period in which Bentley has created over 950 new jobs, and in 2013 the company delivered a record 10,120 units, a figure it expects to beat this year.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, said, ““With Bentley's new research and development centre, we will develop a new generation of Bentleys, which will continue our commitment of luxury, performance, quality and engineering excellence. Bentley is the number one luxury car manufacturer in the world and driving more investment into our headquarters and attracting talent is key to continuing our success.”
Present at the announcement was Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, who said, “Bentley is an iconic British Brand that exports around the world. Their decision to create another 300 jobs in R&D on a new site providing close to 1,000 new jobs is fantastic news for Crewe and for Britain.  These highly skilled jobs in this export industry are exactly the kind of opportunities we want to see created which is why in yesterday’s Autumn Statement I provided further incentives for R&D in the UK. The investment will not only create jobs at Bentley, but support many more through suppliers across the UK. I want Britain to be a country where companies want to invest and create jobs, as Bentley is doing today.”
Bentley had already committed to a three-year, £800 million investment package in the future of its UK operations, including the company’s largest intake of new apprentices for ten years and a key role in brining the first University Technical College to Crewe.
