Audi have celebrated a production milestone after the one-millionth Q5 SUV rolled off the Ingolstadt assembly line.

The honour fell to a Sepang Blue model destined for a domestic customer, but the Audi Q5 has been a global hit for Audi with the model having been introduced in 100 different countries since it entered production in 2008. A total of 266,968 Audi Q5s were delivered worldwide last year, up 8% on 2014, and so far this year demand has continued to rise. To meet that demand the Ingolstadt plant produces 650 examples per day.

In addition to the German Ingolstadt plant, the Q5 is also produced in India and China for their respective markets, while production of the model is due to start in Mexico later this year.

“I am very proud that we have created a worldwide crowd puller with this SUV model from the main plant in Ingolstadt. One million Audi Q5 cars – that is due to the outstanding performance of our production team. We achieved it with great effort and commitment,” stated Albert Mayer, Plant Director at the Audi site in Ingolstadt.
