Aston Martin has today announced a raft of enhancements for its Vanquish and Rapide S.

The new cars will feature improved performance, much-improved fuel economy and emissions, and “an even more honed, precise and responsive driving experience.”

Both of the new cars get Aston Martin’s new Touchtronic III eight-speed automatic gearbox, which Aston Martin has developed in collaboration with its technical partner ZF to integrate into the VH platform, which underpins the entire Aston range.

The result of Aston’s fettling is a half-second drop in both cars’ 0-60mph times. The Vanquish will now hit 60mph in just 3.6 seconds, while the Rapide S will do it in 4.2 seconds.

The new gearbox also gets revised ratios, which cuts both CO2 emissions and fuel consumption by around 10 per cent. The Vanquish now emits 298g/km while the Rapide S churns out 300g/km, while both cars will hit 31mpg on the EU’s extra urban cycle test.

Thanks to the new gear ratios, both cars will also, for the first time, be capable of 200mph and above.

Aston claims that the new gearbox is three per-cent lighter than its predecessor and can change cogs in just 130 milliseconds, quicker than even the best racing drivers are capable of.

Both cars also feature a new engine management system, enhanced trim and new specification options.
