The all-new Subaru Impreza has been unveiled in New York, the first model to be underpinned by the Japanese manufacturer’s Global Platform which will form the basis of the next generation of Subaru products.

Featuring Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as standard, the new Impreza comes in hatchback and estate body styles, with the former under consideration for a European launch. The familiar hexagonal grille and ‘hawk-eye’ headlights have been incorporate into a more sculptured body which is 41mm longer, 38mm wider, and with a wheelbase 25mm longer than the current Impreza. The four-cylinder ‘boxer’ engined Impreza has much improved rigidity thanks to the use of high-strength steel, with body roll reduced by half.

Safety features include the EyeSight collision avoidance system, and improved energy absorption. Eyesight boasts Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking and Lane Departure and Sway Warning, plus a Lane Keep Assist function. Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are also available. Steering Responsive Headlights are also available, as is High Beam Assist which automatically activates and deactivates the high-beam headlamps based on driving conditions. All new Impreza models also include front seat side impact airbags, side curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag all as standard.

The new Impreza comes as standard with Subaru’s latest touchscreen infotainment system with voice control. The screen provides the display for the standard rear vision camera and navigation, while the system gives access to a range of apps that can be downloaded onto users’ mobile devices, which pair up via Subaru STARLINK to offer the latest in digital music playing, Bluetooth wireless capability, iPod control, and smartphone integration and more. Other functions include weather and traffic updates and news updates.
