Frequently Asked Questions - Buying/bidding
- Can I bid on more than one car at a time?
- Please be aware of the implications of bidding on more than one car at a time. Carsite do not recommended bidding on multiple cars because like all auctions if you place a winning bid, which is still the case at the end of the auction, you are the owner of that auction item! You should select the car that you want and bid on it. Carsite suggests Only if you lose the bid should you continue to bid on alternatives.
- Can I bid with negative/ minus feedback?
- NO. Unfortunately, we will not be able to verify your bid if you have minus rating feedback on your eBay standing. To explain, the problem stands not with the fact that we suspect you to be an untrustworthy bidder, but with other eBayers' perception of us allowing a member with a minus feedback rating to bid on our listings.
- What is proxy bidding and how can I bid to become the
winner of a vehicle with reserve?
- If bids entered do not meet the low wholesale reserve as set by our seller, then the vehicle is not sold.
Finding out the reserve is easy. We always start the bidding at £1, and it will continue to show as £1 no matter how much you increase your bids to until: Someone else also enters a bid (say £1), in which case it would then show you as the highest bidder at £3 (your original £1, then his £1, then your next proxy £1). You would continue to bid up to what you are prepared to win the car for, with the current bid price would continue to show only £3 in red, until your bids meet the reserve price.
- The bid then turns green, showing the reserve price, and you stand the chance to be the winner of that car, probably at less than you were prepared to pay! To ensure you actually do win the car at the end of the auction – you can leave a higher bid (still within your limits) which only eBay see (called proxy bidding). This is important, as if someone tries to outbid you in the very last moments of the auction, eBay will outbid them on your behalf if you have left a proxy bid with eBay that is higher than theirs.. You will then be the winner of your car – probably for less than you were prepared to pay! (Click for an example bidding scenario).
- Although our cars have low reserves (the seller wishes to make this new direct sales method a success!), which is why so many people have left such positive feedback because they get such great cars at great prices, the bidding process can be confusing for some bidders not familiar with eBay proxy bidding.

- How soon after the winning bid can I collect my car?
- Cars in a 5 day auction cycle can only be collected once the auction has ended and the reserve has been met, Carsite require 1 day following receipt of your handling fee to prepare for your handover.
- I cannot find a car that suits me.
- Carsite’s Sellers provide new cars for auction each week, so if you do not see the car that you are looking for within our pages, please do keep an eye on our listings as the variety keeps on building, as do the number of cars we list!
- Will you sell the car privately to me?
- We do not sell cars outside of the eBay or Carsite auction platforms.
- Will you end the auction early?
- Whilst it is not our policy to end ebay auctions early (except in the case of a technical problem), our ‘virtual showroom’ www.carsite.co.uk lists vehicles which can be removed from sale immediately.
Just a £75 handling fee, will ensure your vehicle is prepared ready for your collection. Should the vehicle not be as described, then our ‘no-quibble guarantee’ will ensure your £75 is returned, and you do not have to complete the purchase.
- Can you add a BIN to the listing?
- Please visit our ‘virtual showroom’ www.carsite.co.uk where you can see vehicles listed with BINs which can be removed from sale immediately.
Just a £75 handling fee, will ensure your vehicle is prepared ready for your collection. Should the vehicle not be as described, then our ‘no-quibble guarantee’ will ensure your £75 is returned, and you do not have to complete the purchase.
- Do you accept post auction offers?
- We maybe able to set up a BIN auction for you if the car is unsold at the end of auction, provided we are able to confirm that it is still available.
- Is the Car Still Available?
- If the auction has ended and has not appeared as a BIN on Carsite, please contact Carsite customer support to find out if this car is still available.
- Will the car be re-listed if the reserve is not met?
- If the car is not sold on eBay the owner has the following options:
- To sell though their normal dealer route
- To list as a Buy It Now on Carsite or eBay
- To re-list in another auction cycle on Carsite or eBay
- We do not know the route until end of auction so we cannot say which route it will go.
- Do I tax the car?
- Yes, you are responsible to ensure the car has valid road tax when it leaves the handover centre if it is to be driven on the public highway.
- A map is provided of the nearest post office to the Sellers (This will be in your final ‘next steps’ email once you have purchased the car). This is the final task to be completed before your car will be released, and this is also something that a collection agent would have to perform if you were to send one on your behalf.
- Do you offer Delivery?
- NOT YET! For the time being we are unfortunately not offering a delivery service, however this is something, which we hope to begin to be able to offer in the future. As an alternative, Carsite does allow a successful winner to send a collection agent to collect their car for them if they cannot collect it themselves (for details, please see 'collection agent' FAQ).
- Can I send a collection agent?
- YES! Carsite does allow a successful buyer to send a collection agent to collect their car for them if they cannot collect it themselves. The collection agent would need to be able to inspect the vehicle to check that it is in line with the listing description, hand over the full payment, and sign any paperwork for the handover of the vehicle. If such a method sounds suitable to you, please contact the Customer Service department who can advise you further.
- What is your return policy?
- All sales are final; however, you will always have an opportunity to examine the car against its 100% 'As described' guarantee before committing to the transaction.
