Subaru WRX Overview

The Current WRX STI comes with a choice of two different 2.5 litre engines, both of which love the taste of petrol. It is the first WRX STI with an automatic transmission option.

The WRX offers superb handling and performance which makes up for its lack in practicality. It is available as a 4 door saloon or a 5 door hatchback.

Background

The Subaru WRX STI was originally put into production in 1992 and was recognised by many as the flagship model of the Impreza model line.

The first generation of the WRX STI remained in production for 8 years until 2000, and was originally only available in the Japan market. The second generation model arrived in 2000 and was a completely updated version of the first generation model. Special variants of the second generation were made available to the UK market; the 2004 WR1 model, the 2006 Spec D model and the 2007 RB320 model.

Production of the third generation model began in 2008 and was originally only available in hatchback form; a saloon version was then introduced in 2011.

The WRX STI has achieved much success in motorsports and has been used by the Subaru World Rally Team as its rally platform since its creation.

Summary

The Subaru WRX STI designed with nothing but performance in mind, and boy can it perform. It isn’t the most practical vehicle and isn’t the cheapest to buy or run, but that isn’t the point of this car. If you’re looking for an economical, cheap, practical car…. You’re looking in the wrong place.
