Renault Twingo Car Reviews

The Renault Twingo is a smart little city car that navigates the urban jungle with ease. It offers a supple ride, impeccable road manners and enough room for four adults. On the downside the Renault Twingo lacks the ultra modern styling of some rivals.

Renault Twingo Overview

The current Twingo is available with engines ranging from a 1.1 litre to a 1.6 litre and can do anywhere between 42.0 and 55.0 miles per gallon. It is available with a number of trim levels; the expression, the i-Music, the Dynamique, the GT and the Extreme.

Renault sums up the character of the Twingo in three words – feisty, practical and connected – so it doesn’t take an ace detective to work out the French firm is aiming the car squarely at the young and the young at heart.

Background

The Renault Twingo was first introduced in 1992 and was available on the market from 1993. The first generation Twingo had very distinct looks, and it did not stop with the cars exterior, the Twingo’s interior was also rather innovative featuring the speedometer and the fuel gage on a central instrument panel as opposed to behind the wheel.

The first generation Twingo was updated three times throughout its life time, before it was replaced by the second generation model in 2007. The Twingo II was the first of the range to be sold in right wheel drive countries such as the United Kingdom. It is built with many parallels to the Mark II Clio making the design and styling a little less original than its predecessor. A facelift for the second generation model is expected to take place in 2012, it is said that this facelift will make the Twingo the first Renault to posses Renault’s new design.

Summary

Although a certain je ne sais quoi may be missing for the fashion conscious buyers, the Renault Twingo is a cheeky looking car – especially the GT with its neat silver detailing, smart 15-inch alloy wheels and tinted rear windows.
