The Mercedes A-Class was first produced in 1997.

The car was equipped with front wheel drive and a front engine, and available as a 5-door hatchback only. There was a large choice of engines, including a 1.7 litre diesel and 2.1 litre petrol.

The car was given a facelift in 2001, with minor exterior changes making it more attractive.
Production of the second generation of the A-Class began in 2004. A number of features have been implemented to increase the safety of the vehicle, while the handling has been improved and emissions have been lowered. The model is now available as a 3-door hatchback as well as a 5-door.

The second generation was given a facelift in 2008, featuring a restyled interior and many changes to the exterior including new headlights and redesigned bumpers.

The fastest version of the model can accelerate from 0 – 60mph in less than 8 seconds and tops out at 135mph.
