Jeep Grand Cherokee Overview

The Jeep Grand Cherokee sells for similar to what one would pay for a premium saloon. The diesel engine option makes the most sense and is more economical. The diesel engine also performs better. The Grand Cherokee won’t be cheap, however, in terms of insurance, fuel, and running costs. Resale values should remain high.

The Grand Cherokee makes for an excellent family car with a spacious, comfortable interior that is equipped with a large, easily-navigable display. The impressive aesthetics of the car have proved that buyers are not just interested in performance when it comes to 4x4s.

Background

The first generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was produced from 1993 till 1998. The model came with three trim levels, and each came with a different level of standard equipment. The Limited was the premium variant, and came with a particularly luxurious interior.

1996 brought cosmetic changes, with improved body modelling and extra interior features such as dual airbags and better fabric quality for seating.

The next generation of the Grand Cherokee was released in 1999. This model was only available with automatic transmission, and it was lighter which resulted in better fuel economy.

2010 saw the release of the third generation. Features available for the first time in a Jeep included Quadra-Drive II four-wheel drive, rear-seat DVD player and an optional 5.7 L Hemi V8 engine.

The current generation Jeep Grand Cherokee went on sale in summer 2010 as a 2011 model. The Grand Cherokee retains its classic Jeep styling combined with a modern and sleek body style. The interior is luxurious featuring leather trim, and it is available with a 6.4 litre V8 engine.

Summary

The Grand Cherokee is a Jeep that provides pure luxury for passengers, whilst retaining all the classic qualities of the iconic brand.
