The car was a completely new design for Ford, which had demanded high development costs. This model was produced as a 4-door saloon, a 5-door hatchback and a 5-door estate. Several levels of trim were available.
The second generation Mondeo, released in 1996, received a restyled exterior shape and offered more interior space. The safety of the vehicle had been improved, and in 1998 the Zetec engine was upgraded to become more refined.
The Mondeo entered its third generation in 2000. This model was considerably larger than its predecessor and safety levels were again improved upon. Standard levels of equipment were more favourable and the engine selection had been revised.
The current generation of the Ford Mondeo has been in production since 2007. In addition to its availability with very high levels of equipment, there is a vast range of engines to choose from. The car received a facelift in 2010, sporting minor exterior modifications.
