The additional features offered by the enhanced trim level of this small family hatchback are well worth the extra £1,500 and ensure that customers get a car which has the comfort levels to match its performance. The additional features make the car more comfortable to drive and the purchase price remains competitive compared with other cars on the market.

PROS:  More standard kit than the entry level Punto Evo Active 1.3 gives this model additional levels of comfort and safety for a small additional cost. Efficiency remains high whilst running costs are low, offering good value for money.

CONS:  Leg room is a little restrictive and hampers the car’s otherwise spacious interior. Acceleration remains a little on the slow side and means the car labours when pulling away.

Behind the Wheel

When it comes to performance, there is no difference between this version and the entry level Active with the 1.3 diesel engine offering a mediocre power output of 75 bhp at 4000 rpm with a torque figure of 140lb-ft at 1500 rpm. This gives the car sluggish acceleration as it takes 13.6 seconds to travel from 0-62 mph. Despite this, a top speed of 103mph means the car does not fail on every aspect of its performance and those after an additional boost could invest in the petrol powered Fiat Punto Evo Abarth 1.4 16v MultiAir 3dr which accelerates quicker and reaches a much higher top speed.

The engine is fairly quiet and this means there is little noise within the car's cabin, making the car a pleasure to drive. Noise from the road and wind is audible but not excessive.

Looks & Equipment

With a sleek and sophisticated exterior, the appearance of the Punto Evo is one of its main selling points.

The Punto Evo Dynamic 1.3 comes with a decent range of standard equipment including power steering, central locking, stability control, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, Bluetooth connectivity and an advanced stereo system with MP3 connectivity.

Optional extras include metallic paint (£450), cruise control (£155), rear parking sensors (£265), leather seats (£825) and climate control (£265).

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

As stated, the interior comfort of the Punto Evo is of a high standard and there is a practical use of space throughout. Aimed at small families, the boot capacity is reasonable offering 275 litres of space with the seats up and 1,030 litres with the seats down. Whilst rear leg room is at a premium, it is still possible to reach the full five adult seating capacity - although this will probably only be comfortable on shorter journeys

In terms of safety, the Punto Evo offers a great range of standard safety features. Driver, passenger and front-side airbags are all standard features and stability control keeps the Punto planted on the road.

Reliability is considered fairly average with mixed opinions received from owners. The quality of the interior is high to enhance comfort and give a greater feeling of security, helping to elevate the status of Fiat’s small family hatchback but unfortunately, the model lacks some common features found in rival models – such as deadlocks and anti-whiplash head restraints – which could put it at a disadvantage.

Value for Money

Overall, the Punto Evo Dynamic is an impressive car which delivers good performance at a relatively low purchase price of £13,900. This is more than manageable for a small family car and with low insurance premiums (under insurance bracket 11) the car shouldn’t be expensive to maintain.

The purchase price is £1,500 dearer than the entry-level Punto Evo but this cost is justified by the extra features which are on offer. These not only give the car a more stylish appearance and additional comfort but they also improve safety and give customers access to a vast number of extras which are not available on the Active models.

Road tax is also cheap, falling under tax band B thanks to strong green credentials provided by ultra-low carbon emissions of 108g/km. As these savings are combined with a high fuel efficiency of 68.9 mpg, running costs are low.
