Chevrolet Captiva Overview

On the road is where this crossover is most at home, and it soaks up bumps and potholes reasonably well, and there is limited body roll through bends, with an impressive feeling of grip at all times. The 2.2 litre diesels are quiet and smooth, with wind and road noise being faint even at motorway speeds.

Given the Captiva’s size it is a very practical family car. The option of 7-seats means that it offers as much flexibility as the largest 4x4’s and the interior space is very well used. Obviously boot space is compromised when all three rows of seats are up, but when the third row is folded it is of a decent size, and when the second row is folded it is huge. The additional cup holders, door bins and chilled glove box make stowage of most items possible.

Background

The Captiva was inspired by the Chevrolet S3X concept car from 2004 and is based on the GM Theta Platform.  The production model debuted at the Paris Motor Show later that year. Originally it was available with a 2.0 litre diesel engine but this was replaced with the launch of a revised range.

The new range utilises a 2.2 litre turbodiesel, and its re-designed front fascia resembles the new Chevrolet Aveo’s sporty looks.

Summary

The Chevrolet Captiva is a roomy crossover 4x4 that offers enough room to be a practical family car; it is also one of the safest cars on the market, receiving a 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating in 2011.
