Caterham 7 Car Reviews

The Seven is a real driving experience. It is built like an old-school racer, and although the styling won’t appeal to everyone, the sharp handling and involving drive will. There are a number of different versions of the Seven available, the Classic, Roadsport and Superlight. Performance in the Seven varies, with a number of different tuning levels, from a 1.6 litre 105bhp unit to a 260bhp unit, providing incredible acceleration in a car that weighs only 550kg.

Caterham 7 Overview

The handling matches the brilliant performance of the car. The steering is sensitive and well balanced, making it one of the most responsive cars available today. In addition, ride is adjustable to your preference, so may not be as firm as you think.

Given the Seven’s appearance, you would be right in thinking it is not the most practical car available. The lack of roof and doors makes this a fair weather car only, whilst the almost non-existent luggage space limits its range. Behind the wheel, the Seven includes the necessary dials, but not a lot else.

Caterham’s can either be purchased as kit cars or factory built, and as a result cost can be reduced by building at home. In addition, although it offers powerful performance, the lightweight body of the car means it is not particularly expensive to run.

Background

The Seven began production under the Caterham name in 1973, however, before that the model was built by Lotus. Lotus built the car in both kit and factory built forms from the 1950s until Caterham bought the rights. Today the Seven is available in Classic, Roadsport and Superlight forms.

Summary

This Caterham is not your everyday car. It is built to offer a unique driving experience, and puts this far above practicality and comfort. For those looking for a Sunday car or track-day thriller, the Seven may be the perfect option.
