Aston Martin DB9 Overview
As with any Aston, the build quality is exception. The interior matches the exquisite exterior design, with luxurious materials used at every possible opportunity. The dash is made up of wood and aluminium, whilst the rest of the cabin is leather and carpet. The DB9 is also very well equipped, with the possibility for high levels of personalisation, but that should be expected when paying such a high price.
The front seats are very comfortable, fully adjustable and offer excellent support. However, although this is a 2+2 sports car, the seats in the back are small, and the sloping roof restricts head room significantly. If the front passengers are larger, leg room will also be very cramped in the back.
Background
The DB9 was launched in 2004 to replace the DB7 which was first released 10 years earlier. The name DB9 was chosen instead of DB8 for a number of reasons, firstly because they wanted to show that there was more than just gradual evolution from the DB7, since they believed the DB9 was a huge leap forward. Also, since it sports a V12, they didn’t want to cause confusion by naming it a DB8, suggesting that it had only a V8.
It was developed using Ford’s aluminium VH platform, and is composed of a bonded aluminium structure, that gives it far more rigidity than its predecessor. In addition to this, it is also far lighter.
In 2008 the DB9 received a facelift, to both the exterior and interior, and another minor facelift in 2011.
Summary
The DB9 is a powerful GT with a sleek body and classy interior. Although it is marketed as a 2+2, it may be more practical to think of this as a 2 seater, unless rear passengers are going to be small. The handling and performance of this car are excellent, which should be expected from the luxury manufacturer.
