Alfa Romeo Mito Overview

It’s sleek, seamless design is partly derived from the 8C Competizione, with specific features, such as the shape of the side windows, headlights and rear-lights. It explains why this small family car has such a sexy, sporty appearance.

Since it is only available as a 3-door hatchback, it isn’t the most practical car in the world. Access to the back seats is tight, and once inside there is little legroom for adults. The boot however, is of a decent size, at 270 litres.

There is a good range of engines available starting with a 1.4-litre 78bhp petrol unit. Other units come in a range of the 1.4 litre petrol engine using Alfa’s award winning MultiAir system including 105bhp, 135bhp and 170bhp versions and two diesel engines – a 1.3 and 1.6- MultiJet unit, with the latter offering 120bhp. All the engines offer a good range of power and efficiency with reasonable fuel economy figures.

The Mito is effortlessly stylish inside and out and anyone thinking about buying this car may find it hard to leave the showroom without it.  The car is easily recognisable as an Alfa due to the very distinctive retro grille, and wide-apart teardrop headlamps help that make it stand out from the crowd.

Background

The Mito made its first international appearance at the British Motor Show in 2008, and was made available later that year. It is a 3-door hatch back, built to compete with the likes of the Mini and Audi A1, whilst sharing the Fiat Small platform with the Fiat Grande Punto.

The name is a result of the combination between Milano and Torino, where it was designed and built, respectively. It also means myth in Italian.

Summary

The Alfa Romeo Mito offers style, sophistication and lots of fun with a distinctive and classy image that has already gained it a number of fans. It uses revolutionary technology with the development of the MultiAir and MultiJet diesel engine, whilst not compromising on the distinctive styling that has made Alfa Romeo such a desirable brand in the past.
